# About Nodule Navigator

An interactive educational platform for understanding pulmonary nodules — built for
clinicians, students, and curious minds.

## What it does

Nodule Navigator covers core concepts in pulmonary nodule education — from size and density
classification to risk stratification using validated clinical guidelines. Features include
an interactive 3D lung nodule viewer, a guided tutorial, a risk calculator based on the Mayo
Clinic model, and a clinical glossary.

The 3D viewer renders each nodule morphology — smooth solid, lobulated, spiculated, and
ground-glass opacity — at four true-to-life diameters, from 4 mm to 30 mm, and can place them
at real-world scale in augmented reality on a phone. A companion comparison mode sets each
size beside a familiar everyday object so the measurements in a radiology report become
something you can actually picture.

The lesson library walks through nodule types, lung cancer facts, risk factors and symptoms,
and the fundamentals of biomarker testing — including the driver mutations that guide
targeted therapy, such as EGFR, ALK, ROS1, and KRAS G12C. A knowledge check quiz draws from
the full question bank so the material can be revisited. Content throughout is grounded in
Lung-RADS 2022, the Fleischner Society 2017 guidelines, USPSTF screening criteria, and
peer-reviewed literature, with every source cited on the references page.

The risk calculator implements the Mayo Clinic logistic regression model for solitary
pulmonary nodules, validated for patients aged 40 and over with nodules between 4 mm and
30 mm. Every input stays in the browser — nothing is transmitted, stored, or logged, and the
app collects no personal or health data.

Nodule Navigator is free to use and requires no account. This is strictly an educational
resource. It is not a medical device and is not intended to influence clinical
decision-making.

## How it is built

A Next.js App Router application in plain JavaScript, styled with Tailwind CSS, deployed on
Vercel at nodule.app. 3D and AR rendering uses Google's `model-viewer` web component with
GLB assets for WebGL and USDZ assets for AR Quick Look on iOS. The site runs entirely
client-side: there is no database, no account system, and no analytics.

## Get in touch

The [contact page](https://nodule.app/contact) explains what the message form is for —
corrections to educational content, accessibility problems, and general feedback — and what
it must not be used for. Do not send personal health information, patient details, imaging,
or clinical questions about a specific case.
