# Knowledge Check

A self-scored quiz covering every lesson on Nodule Navigator. Each run draws **ten
questions at random** from a bank of **38**, so the quiz can be retaken without
repeating the same set.

## How it works

- Ten questions per run, drawn at random from the full bank and shuffled.
- Each question is either true/false or multiple choice with four options.
- Answering locks in the choice and immediately reveals whether it was correct, an
explanation of why, and the source citation the question is drawn from.
- A score and a tier are shown at the end: 8 or more out of 10 is "Excellent",
6 to 7 is "Nice work", below 6 is "Keep Exploring".
- Nothing is recorded. Scores are not stored, transmitted, or logged.

## The question bank

38 questions — 20 multiple choice, 18 true/false — distributed across the
lessons as follows:

| Lesson | Questions |
|---|---|
| Nodule Types | 8 |
| Lung Cancer Facts | 6 |
| Risk Factors & Symptoms | 8 |
| What Is a Biomarker? | 6 |
| Biomarker Testing | 6 |
| Mixed | 4 |

## What each lesson is tested on

Question text and answers are deliberately not reproduced. Roughly half the bank is
true/false, and printing those statements would hand over the answers. The topics are:

### Nodule Types (8 questions)

- The size definition that separates a nodule from a mass.
- The Fleischner Society size thresholds that trigger follow-up imaging.
- How solid, part-solid, and ground-glass density appear on CT and how their risk differs.
- Which margin morphologies raise malignancy suspicion.
- How nodule location factors into risk.
- What an incidental finding does and does not warrant.

### Lung Cancer Facts (6 questions)

- Lung cancer mortality relative to other cancers in the United States.
- The distribution of stage at diagnosis.
- How five-year survival changes with stage.
- The screening modality recommended for high-risk adults.
- The most common histologic type.
- Incidence and mortality trends over the past two decades.

### Risk Factors & Symptoms (8 questions)

- The largest single risk factor, and how much it raises risk.
- The definition and arithmetic of a pack-year.
- Causes of lung cancer in never-smokers, including radon.
- How large a share of cases occur in people who never smoked.
- The B.R.E.A.T.H.E. symptom framework and what each letter stands for.
- How long a symptom should persist before it warrants attention.
- The three USPSTF criteria for LDCT screening eligibility.

### What Is a Biomarker? (6 questions)

- What a biomarker is, and what counts as one.
- Why two identical diagnoses can behave differently.
- What a molecular fingerprint is and where it is written.
- Tissue biopsy versus liquid biopsy.
- What precision medicine means in practice.

### Biomarker Testing (6 questions)

- What a driver mutation is and why it is targetable.
- The common actionable mutations in NSCLC and their approximate frequencies.
- What next-generation sequencing does and what a single panel covers.
- How targeted therapy response rates compare with unmatched chemotherapy.
- What a positive and a negative result each mean for treatment options.
- What NCCN recommends about molecular profiling at diagnosis.

### Mixed (4 questions)

- Questions that span more than one lesson, connecting imaging findings, risk factors, and molecular testing.

## Sources

Every question carries its own citation, shown after answering. The bank draws on the
Fleischner Society 2017 guidelines, Lung-RADS v2022, USPSTF 2021 screening
recommendations, the National Lung Screening Trial, NCCN guidelines, SEER and American
Cancer Society statistics, and cited peer-reviewed literature. Full citations are on the
